The Rt Hon. the Lord Baker of Dorking CH was born Kenneth Wilfred Baker on 03 November 1934 , and is a Conservative Life peer sitting in the House of Lords since 16 June 1997. He previously sat in the House Of Commons as MP for Mole Valley, St Marylebone and Acton.


In the past, Lord Baker of Dorking has held the position of Home Secretary (1990 to 1992), Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster (1989 to 1990), Secretary of State for Education and Science (1986 to 1989), Secretary of State for Environment (1985 to 1986), Minister of State (Department of Environment) (Local Government) (1984 to 1985), Minister of State (Industry & Information Technology) (1983 to 1984), Minister of State (Department of Industry) (1981 to 1983), Parliamentary Secretary (Civil Service Department) (1972 to 1974) in government.
