The Rt Hon. the Lord Bates was born Michael Bates on 26 May 1961 , and is a Conservative Life peer sitting in the House of Lords since 30 June 2008. He previously sat in the House Of Commons as MP for Langbaurgh.
Lord Bates is currently Minister of State (Department for International Development), a government position he has held since October 2016.
