Rt Hon Sir Nicholas Soames was born Arthur Nicholas Winston Soames on 12 February 1948 in Croydon, England and is the Conservative MP for Mid Sussex.

Rt Hon Sir Nicholas Soames ceased to be a member of the House of Commons on 03 May 2017 (general election).

In the past, Sir Nicholas Soames has held the position of Minister of State (Ministry of Defence) (Armed Services) (1994 to 1997), Parliamentary Secretary (Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food) (1992 to 1994) in government.

He was Shadow Secretary of State for Defence (2003 to 2005) in opposition.
