Rt Hon Michael Gove was born Michael Andrew Gove on 26 August 1967 in Edinburgh, Scotland and is the Conservative MP for Surrey Heath.

Rt Hon Michael Gove ceased to be a member of the House of Commons on 03 May 2017 (general election).


In the past, Michael Gove has held the position of Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice (2015 to 2016), Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasury and Chief Whip (2014 to 2015), Secretary of State for Education (2010 to 2014) in government.

He was Shadow Secretary of State (Children, Schools and Families) (2007 to 2010), Shadow Minister (Housing and Planning) (2005 to 2007) in opposition.
