Rt Hon John Spellar



Rt Hon John Spellar was born John Francis Spellar on 05 August 1947 in Bromley, England and is the Labour MP for Warley. He has been an MP since 09 April 1992 and has previously sat in the House of Commons for Birmingham Northfield.

Rt Hon John Spellar ceased to be a member of the House of Commons on 03 May 2017 (general election).


In the past, John Spellar has held the position of Comptroller (HM Household) (Deputy Chief Whip, House of Commons) (2008 to 2010), Minister of State (Northern Ireland Office) (2003 to 2005), Minister of State (Department for Transport) (2002 to 2003), Minister of State (Department of Transport, Local Government and Regions) (Transport) (2001 to 2002), Minister of State (Ministry of Defence) (1999 to 2001), Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Ministry of Defence) (1997 to 1999) in government.

He was Shadow Minister (Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs) (2010 to 2015), Shadow Spokesperson (Defence) (1995 to 1997), Shadow Spokesperson (Northern Ireland) (1994 to 1995), Opposition Whip (Commons) (1992 to 1994) in opposition.
