Rt Hon Margaret Beckett MP was born Margaret Mary Beckett on 15 January 1943 in Ashton-under-Lyne, England and is the Labour MP for Derby South. She has been an MP since 09 June 1983 and has previously sat in the House of Commons for Lincoln.
In the past, Margaret Beckett has held the position of Minister of State (Department of Communities and Local Government) (Housing) (2008 to 2009), Foreign Secretary (2006 to 2007), Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (2001 to 2006), Lord President of the Council and Leader of the House of Commons (Privy Council Office) (1998 to 2001), Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills (1997 to 1998), Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Department of Education and Science) (1976 to 1979), Assistant Whip (HM Treasury) (1975 to 1976) in government.
She was Shadow Secretary of State for Health (1994 to 1995), Leader of Her Majesty's Official Opposition (1994 to 1994), Shadow Leader of the House of Commons (1992 to 1994), Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury (1989 to 1992), Shadow Minister (Social Security) (1984 to 1989) in opposition.
She was Member, Labour Party National Executive Committee, Leader of the Labour Party, Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, Member, Labour Party National Executive Committee.
