The Lord Burns GCB was born Terence Burns on 13 March 1944 , and is a Crossbench Life peer sitting in the House of Lords since 20 July 1998.


Currently sitting on the Economic Affairs Committee (since May 2016), Lord Burns chairs the Lord Speaker's committee on the size of the House (December 2016).

He has in the past sat on Trade Union Political Funds and Political Party Funding Committee (Jan 2016 to Feb 2016), Economic Affairs Committee (Jun 2001 to Nov 2003), Financial Services and Markets (Joint Committee) (Mar 1999 to Nov 1999), Monetary Policy Committee of the Bank of England (Dec 1998 to May 2001). He has also chaired in the past Trade Union Political Funds and Political Party Funding Committee (Jan 2016 to Feb 2016).
