Sir Alan Meale was born Joseph Alan Meale on 31 July 1949 in Bishop Auckland , England and is the Labour MP for Mansfield.

Sir Alan Meale ceased to be a member of the House of Commons on 03 May 2017 (general election).


In the past, Sir Alan Meale has held the position of Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Department of Environment) (1998 to 1999) in government.

He was Opposition Whip (Commons) (1992 to 1994) in opposition.
