The Rt Hon. the Lord Blunkett was born David Blunkett on 06 June 1947 , and is a Labour Life peer sitting in the House of Lords since 28 September 2015. He previously sat in the House Of Commons as MP for Sheffield Brightside and Hillsborough and Sheffield Brightside.
Currently sitting on the Citizenship and Civic Engagement Committee (since June 2017), Lord Blunkett does not chair at this time.
He has in the past sat on Committee on Issue of Privilege (Police Searches on Parliamentary Estate)
In the past, Lord Blunkett has held the position of Secretary of State for Work and Pensions (2005 to 2005), Home Secretary (2001 to 2004), Secretary of State for Education and Employment (1997 to 2001) in government.
He was Shadow Secretary of State for Education (1995 to 1997), Shadow Secretary of State for Education (1994 to 1995), Shadow Secretary of State for Health (1992 to 1994), Opposition Spokesperson (Local Government and Poll Tax) (1988 to 1992) in opposition.
He was Party Chair, Labour Party, Member, Labour Party National Executive Committee.
