The Rt Hon. the Lord Deben

The Rt Hon. the Lord Deben was born John Selwyn Gummer on 26 November 1939 , and is a Conservative Life peer sitting in the House of Lords since 21 June 2010. He previously sat in the House Of Commons as MP for Suffolk Coastal, Eye and Lewisham West.


In the past, Lord Deben has held the position of Secretary of State for Environment (1993 to 1997), Secretary of State for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (1989 to 1993), Minister of State (Department of Environment) (Local Government) (1988 to 1989), Minister of State (Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food) (1985 to 1988), Paymaster General (HM Treasury) (1984 to 1985), Minister of State (Department of Employment) (1983 to 1984), Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Department of Employment) (1983 to 1983), Lord Commissioner (HM Treasury) (Whip) (1981 to 1983), Assistant Whip (HM Treasury) (1981 to 1981) in government.

He was Party Chair, Conservative Party, Vice-Chair, Conservative Party.
