Rt Hon Sir Simon Burns was born Simon Hugh McGuigan Burns on 06 September 1952 in Nottingham , England and is the Conservative MP for Chelmsford.

Rt Hon Sir Simon Burns ceased to be a member of the House of Commons on 03 May 2017 (general election).


In the past, Sir Simon Burns has held the position of Minister of State (Department for Transport) (Rail and Aviation) (2012 to 2013), Minister of State (Department of Health) (Health Services) (2010 to 2012), Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Department of Health) (1996 to 1997), Lord Commissioner (HM Treasury) (Whip) (1995 to 1996), Assistant Whip (HM Treasury) (1994 to 1995) in government.

He was Opposition Whip (Commons) (2005 to 2010), Shadow Spokesperson (Health) (2001 to 2005), Shadow Spokesperson (Communities and Local Government) (1998 to 1999), Shadow Spokesperson (Business, Innovation and Skills) (1997 to 1998) in opposition.
