The Rt Hon. the Baroness Quin

Life peer


The Rt Hon. the Baroness Quin was born Joyce Gwendolen Quin on 26 November 1944 in England, and is a Labour Life peer sitting in the House of Lords since 30 May 2006. She previously sat in the House Of Commons as MP for Gateshead East and Washington West and Gateshead East.


Currently sitting on the Communications Committee (since May 2016), Baroness Quin does not chair at this time.

She has in the past sat on EU Sub Committee E - Justice, Institutions and Consumer Protection (Jun 2014 to Mar 2015), European Union Committee (Dec 2013 to Mar 2015), EU Sub Committee C - External Affairs (May 2013 to Jun 2014), Constitution Committee (Feb 2007 to Apr 2010), House of Lords Reform (Joint Committee) (Jun 2002 to May 2005), Intelligence and Security Committee of Parliament (Jul 2001 to Jul 2005), Treasury & Civil Service Sub-Committee (Feb 1989 to Mar 1989), Treasury & Civil Service Sub-Committee (Jun 1987 to Nov 1995), Treasury & Civil Service (Jun 1987 to Mar 1989). She has also chaired in the past EU Sub Committee E - Justice, Institutions and Consumer Protection (Nov 2014 to Mar 2015).


In the past, Baroness Quin has held the position of Minister of State (Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food) (1999 to 2001), Minister of State (Foreign and Commonwealth Office) (1998 to 1999), Minister of State (Home Office) (1997 to 1998) in government.

She was Shadow Spokesperson (Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) (2010 to 2011) in opposition.
