The Rt Hon. the Lord Hain

The Rt Hon. the Lord Hain was born Peter Hain on 16 February 1950 , and is a Labour Life peer sitting in the House of Lords since 22 October 2015. He previously sat in the House Of Commons as MP for Neath.


In the past, Lord Hain has held the position of Secretary of State for Wales (2009 to 2010), Secretary of State for Work and Pensions (2007 to 2008), Secretary of State for Northern Ireland (2005 to 2007), Leader of the House of Commons and Lord Privy Seal (2003 to 2005), Secretary of State for Wales (2002 to 2008), Minister of State (Europe) (2001 to 2002), Minister of State (Energy and Competitiveness in Europe) (2001 to 2001), Minister of State (Foreign and Commonwealth Office) (1999 to 2000), Parliamentary Under Secretary (Welsh Office) (1997 to 1999) in government.

He was Shadow Secretary of State for Wales (2010 to 2012), Shadow Spokesperson (Work and Pensions) (1996 to 1997), Opposition Whip (Commons) (1995 to 1996) in opposition.
